Festival season is officially upon us! We are stoked to be returning to Coachella 2016, bringing with us our cavalcade of choice musicians, internationally acclaimed performers, state-of-the-art installations, and the co-creative vibe you have come to love at the Do Lab stage year after year.
As part of the ambience in our magical corner of Coachella, we are pleased to offer another mural project through the Do Art Foundation, an area that will be transformed by talented visionary artists over the course of both weekends.
The Do Art Foundation is a nonprofit organization that develops artistic projects across multiple mediums with and for the public, with the intention of introducing inspiration to modern culture. We want art to a part of community landscapes – not just festivals – and this foundation has helped bridge the gap between creatives, developers, and funders to transform the canvas that is this planet we call home. Projects are designed with each specific location in mind, and for Coachella, we are bringing artists who specialize in mind bending, consciousness-oriented art.
Read on and get to know the artists we’ll have in tow splashing colors into breath-taking live mural paintings at our stage!
A creator of art since the age of four, Dela has grown to a selftaught painter who made a name for himself in the Bay Area art scene. From selling paintings at Oakland’s First Fridays, to live painting at Temple Nightclub, he a positioned himself to meet the right people, which has led to him become a live artist within the festival circuit. Currently Denverbased, Dela finds ideas in environmental awareness and appreciation of our connection with nature. He draws inspiration from things like nebulas, the Hubble Space Telescope, animals, and the female form. The cosmic touches give his paintings and murals an ethereal feeling, transporting the viewer to another place and time.
Williams has grown from a background of graffiti and other public art forms, and has taken over the Sacramento area with his intricate, beautiful, and strange paintings and large murals of otherworldly creatures. His style blossomed into that of drawing and painting fine art, bringing to life a world of surreal characters from his vast imagination. Futuristic and mechanical, yet still seemingly organic, his creations elicit wonder from the viewer. His path has led him to several group shows and murals in Los Angeles, as well as propelled him to music festivals and other creative events. Murals being his favorite format to express himself, we are thrilled to welcome him to our stage.
Ngene Mwaura is a soulful artist who uses his abilities to tell a story. Specializing in illustrations, body art, and live painting, his work is animated and exudes a heavy influence from his childhood and time studying and working with other artists in Kenya. He uses thick lines and bright colors to bring his visions to life. Upon moving to California, his involvement in the local art scene as well as his African heritage led him to find the right cultural circles that propelled him to further his method and career. He now coalesces between live art and studio work, exerting that music is one of his most influential tools when creating in public or private. For Ngene each piece is a spiritual journey, made even more special by being able to engage with an audience.
Saunders is a Venice based mixed media artist whose work portrays themes of connectedness. Each different creation is like a psychedelic spirit animal with a pleasing balance and design. He became compelled to create images pouring from his subconscious after having a near death experience. This intriguing place from which he draws inspiration gives his work a divine edge. His themes of self awareness, intentional evolution, and collective consciousness radiate from his pieces and personality. From laser etchings and engravings, to drawings, graphics, prints, and apparel, he utilizes art and design using many different outlets, and he will fit right in with us at the Do Lab stage. We are looking forward to seeing you one or both weekends. Come immerse yourself in our creative environment we’ve been pouring our heart and soul into!
