With a fierce work ethic that is only matched by his fun-loving cheer, Rafael “Xavier” Marino heads up our all our street-based outreach initiatives across the country. In other words, if you’ve ever received information about one of our events while leaving a show since 2014, then it was probably his efforts that made that possible. As the perpetual life of the party, he brings with him a seemingly bottomless energy and a stick-to-it-iveness that spreads news of the work we Do with a memorable smile. In addition to his role as our Promotions Manager, Rafael uses his increasingly extensive knowledge of the music scene to keep us true to our roots while simultaneously serving as a source of some of the freshest beats heard around the office.

What’s a topic you’re currently intrigued by or passionate about?

The Ocean!

Why is that topic important to you?

It’s always been a part of my life, for as long as I can remember there has always existed a love for the ocean. From childhood until now I’ve been fascinated with visiting aquariums and observing/interacting with fish and marine mammals. There’s been an omnipresent desire to scuba dive with sharks, learn how to sail and captain a boat and to find some way to constantly explore something thats so massive but yet so unknown. When I was 17 I began my Scuba Diving and Sailing training and it has been integral part of my life ever since. I’m looking forward to exploring the Galapagos or to cage dive with Great White Sharks. In the meantime, I’m constantly learning new things about the ocean and getting every chance to go explore it!

What’s a lesson you’ve learned from festivals?

Learn to expect the unexpected and a lot of the fun comes from the challenge that change consistently occurs within people’s tastes, enjoyments, etc., and to continually provide a great experience makes it all worth it.

What artist would you leave on repeat the whole way home?

I would have to say &Me and Sacha Robotti. I’ve been listening to the &Me BPM Festival podcast over and over and Sacha just played a set for me at a very intimate event we hosted a little while ago that I’ve kept on repeat ever since!
