Do LaB Staff Pick: Karla Hernandez

Karla Hernandez has been making things happen at Do LaB since 2017. Her role as Creative Coordinator spans many departments, but she is predominately the H.B.I.C when it comes to harmonizing everyone and everything involved with curating the interactive, art installation, and visual performer lineups for Lightning in a Bottle. Karla is also responsible for aiding in the selection our media teams and managing Do LaB’s many video projects. Above all, however, Karla is best known for her attention to detail and infectious laugh, and for that we love her!

Name: Karla Hernandez
Title: Creative Coordinator

What’s a topic you’re currently intrigued by or passionate about?

Salsa and Bachata dancing

Why is that topic important to you?

I became interested in these dance styles while traveling around Colombia for a month last summer. Everyone that I encountered was a great dancer! It runs in their blood and the passion is infectious. So when I returned to LA, I started taking classes and it has been a big source of joy for me. I also love that it is one more way to stay connected to my Latin roots.

What’s a lesson you’ve learned from festivals?

I’ve learned to slow down and dedicate more time to appreciate the different types of beauty that surrounds us. Whether it’s stopping to look at a sunset, admiring a new Do LaB stage design or taking a moment to say hello to a neighbor or stranger, I’ve realized that everything in life is a form of art.

What artist would you leave on repeat the whole way home?

Kaytranada. I love a good dance party, and I was not disappointed when he played LIB 2017. Plus, he always enlists the freshest guest vocalists from the hip hop and r&b worlds.
