Meet Do LaB's Technical Designer

To those who don’t know him he may seem a bit bashful at first, but that’s just because he’s mapping out his next six chess moves on the road to architectural glory. As the metaphorical truss that makes our actual trusses possible, Fritz takes on the colossal task of thinking through all the angles to our projects from creating the lay of the land at our festivals to erecting the signature structural art that makes our landscapes come alive. With a keen eye for detail and an affinity for life outside the box, Fritz represents a foundational force bringing dreams to life at Do LaB, while simultaneously perfecting that celebrated splash of experimental color across the canvas of this industry that makes us who we are today.

Name: Josh “Fritz” Friedensohn
Title: Technical Designer

What’s a topic you’re currently intrigued by or passionate about?

Architecture!

Why is that topic important to you?

I’ve always been interested in how things work, how physics affects the world around us and what tools are used to make the forms we see in the world. Since starting at Do Lab, I’ve opened my eyes to a much broader scope of these interests and seen how modern architecture rides the line between form and function. Technology is becoming a huge part in shaping our sidewalks and skylines. I often find myself stopping along my bike ride to work to look at large metal or little brackets to imagine what machines were used to make them and how the structure of the material resists gravity. Architecture and sculpture are becoming so intertwined, it’s been such a pleasure learning more about it and incorporating it into the work I do for Do Lab.

What’s a lesson you’ve learned from festivals?

Environment Matters. We are placemakers and community builders. If we provide an environment that fosters creativity, connection and positivity, it will multiply a thousandfold through our attendees. People leave festivals feeling so inspired. I owe a lot of my personal growth to my experiences at festivals and I love being a part of that in other people’s lives.

What artist would you leave on repeat the whole way home?

Flume has been my go to for the last year – I love his sound – soulful and groovy. I think he’s paving the way for new genres of music. Sleepless is still my favorite track of his, always gets me moving and grooving.
