Meet Do LaB's Assistant Music Director!

You may not know the big-hearted Megan Young personally, but if you’ve ever wondered how in the world Do LaB stacks one lineup after the next with breakthrough artists on a fast track to creative glory then chances are you’re familiar with a bit of her work. As the Assistant Music Director overseeing talent curation, booking and artist relations at our events Megan is either on the phone serving up smiles to our favorite musicians or she is knee deep in spreadsheets encased in her favorite headphones. In addition to all that she does to help our artists perform with style and grace she also combines a rock solid zen with a shark-like tenacity for a world class experience that you can feel both backstage and in the pit. With each passing event Megan reaffirms herself as a walking symbol of our ethos and our belief that a little love in what you do can go a long way.

Name: Megan Young
Title: Assistant Music Director

What’s a topic you’re currently intrigued by or passionate about?

Cuba!

Why is that topic important to you?

The US Government recently changed their policies regarding visits to Cuba, so I’m planning a trip there later this year. I’ve always been curious about Cuba and am intrigued by the food, politics, old cars, rum, and of course, the music! I’ve been a travel junky since I did a work exchange program in England when I was in college. I love visiting other places in the world and experiencing different ways of life. My travel adventures have helped me understand that my own mind and thought processes are shaped by the place and culture I was raised in. What is accepted as normal in one place, is absurd in another and vice versa. If you want to learn about yourself and your place in the world – travel! Especially off the beaten path.

What’s a lesson you’ve learned from festivals?

I’ve learned to let go of expectation. Trust that you will be in the right place, with the right people, at just the right time. Leave your map and schedule at your camp and get lost. Drink lots of water. Challenge yourself to do something slightly out of your comfort zone, you’ll be surprised at what you learn. Go for the music, return again and again for the community YOU create.

What artist would you leave on repeat the whole way home?

Tourist! I’ve been following his career since LIB 2014 when he played on the Thunder stage. There is something about his oh-so-smooth and haunting “sad dance music” that is extremely addictive. I’ve listened to his mixes back to back for days on end and went to his show both weekends at Coachella last year. He makes great videos too – check out his video for “Holding On feat Josef Salvat & Niia”
