Meet Design Intern, Micaela Duever!

Name: Micaela Duever
Graduation Year: 2019
School: USC
Major: Public Relations
Minor: Social Entrepreneurship

Why did you want to intern at the Do LaB?
Do LaB is a recognizable name in the LA area, the design Do LaB does is extremely cool and modern, designing for a festival producer that makes what my friends consider the best part of Coachella seemed like it would be a great opportunity, I loved the office and the staff when I interviewed.

What are some things you have learned so far?
How to use photoshop in a team setting, all about the Compass, and other green initiatives Do LaB has.

What are your career goals and how has Do LaB prepared you to achieve them?
In 10 years, I want to design sports apparel for Patagonia or REI. I also want to work at a user-centered design firm on the design team. This internship is a strategic step in that direction and gives me a demonstrable background in design (not just PR) that I can show to future employers.

What is the best thing about interning at Do LaB?
Going into this semester, I only wanted to pick up a second internship if it was extremely cool and worth my time. Do LaB has been both. My favorite part is coming in to work and opening illustrator and not being nervous that I’m not doing my “real work,” because design is my real work.

What’s been your favorite college class?
Social Impact Innovation Lab, a semester-long project class where we were put in groups of three and given a population (older adults) that we had to learn about. Then, through the process of user-centered design, we created a product to solve a problem of theirs.

What is one thing you have learned from festivals?
A good experience starts and ends with reliable friends.
